Crochet and mirror work Ganapathi wall hanging

Hi my lovely friends,

Wish you all a Happy Easter. How are you all doing?

This week I am posting about my crochet work with mirror embedded on Ganapathi wall hanging. Yeah, again its the Lord Ganapathi.

Wall hanging
Ganapathi wall hanging
I made this as requested by one of my customers after seeing my work. She wanted it to be in mirrors rather than the rhinestones. This was really a new adventure for me.

Before I started heading to this project, I did much analysis of  how to embed mirrors in crochet. I also tried a swatch for myself just to ensure that everything is in place rather than experimenting it with the original project itself.

I drew a clip art of Ganapathi for reference. Then, I made the crochet base in maroon colour with shell edging first. These were the colours that my customer preferred. I then placed the mirrors to check for the precision. And then using glue gun, started sticking each and every mirror pieces in its propoer place as desired. I let it undisturbed for a while.

Later, I added a felt sheet of maroon colour to add more sturdiness to the back of the wall hanging.

I really enjoyed this work as this is the first time I am using mirrors to my work.

As usual, would love to hear from you too. Please share your comments. Thanks from me, Kala.

Spring 2016 - A peek to my jewellery collection

Hello lovely friends,

Its Spring here. So thought of  blogging about the jewellery I made for few of my friends.

Golden and maroon ball earrings
Pink and black ball earrings &
a black and white floral earring
I made few ball shaped earrings which was a hit. I got requests to make it in different colours, of which the golden colour was much appreciated. I wanted to try it in different colours too.

To the right, you can see a pair of black and white floral white earrings, along with the ball earrings. It was really hard for me to crochet the eight petal floral earring in two colours. It took almost as much hours as it to make 4 pairs of ball earrings.

I was so tired after I finished off that work. Maybe I have chosen wrong thread and needle, or the design was a bit difficult ( but I dint think so, as the stitches were straightforward), or..i don't know, I was so tired that day... But when I showed it to my friend, actually I call her aunty, she is 60+ yrs old, but hardly seems to be of 45yrs, she liked it very much. I forgot my tiresome when I spoke to her.

Butterfly and golden ball earring
Leaf earring
The butterfly earrings was so easy. My daughter liked it very much and she wanted to wear it as I finished it, but she is too small for it. She is just 1.5yrs. So have to wait for few more years....

I liked this green leaf earring, it does mark the arrival of spring. So definitely, not a question to choose which colour is required.. I really love dangling earrings. So thought to crochet a dangle out of thread rather than using any chain. This however is so weightless too. I think a matching necklace would be a simple wear for the spring/summer outfit.

Did you like it ?? What do you prefer??

Please leave your valuable comments. Would love to hear from you.

Puffy hearts that stole the hearts..... A late post...

Hello everyone.. How are you all??

This post is about my trial in making a puffy hearts. I just wanted to do one to present my hubby for the valentine day, but I loved the patterns, so went on with three more.

Collection of my puffy hearts
My favourite colour is red. I love red in its different shades and the combos too. So Valentine's day, special for hearts and of course, in red colour, I thought of gifting my hubby this year with a puffy heart. He gifted me with a laptop this new year so that I can use it for my crochet purposes. So its my return gift with much love. At the same time, I learned a new pattern too.

Gift to my hubby
The red one's yellow bush type work in the middle is a trial of the pattern I found in www.crochetkari.com . Sangeetha has done a good crochet work. The combos are awesome. I got few more ideas to make for my home. Thanks to her. The borders I did was just running stitch (hope its called so). I love tassels. So wherever I get
a chance to use it, I utilize it. But you know, it definitely adds beauty to the work, that's for sure..

Brother's order - front view
Since I learned a new pattern, I went on making three more. My elder son wanted to gift to his friend, Jude. He selected the cream with maroon one. That was his combo he chose when he knew that I was about to crochet hearts.

My brother wanted two - one of his choice of colours - navy blue and green and one from me of my choice. I had two left - a pink - blue and dark pink with flower.

One of my friends was expecting a baby then.. I wasn't sure about the baby. So I thought it would be apt to present her pink - blue combo. So I kept it aside and then decided to give brother the pink with flower one.

Back view

I used the sun burst pattern in the heart for my brother from the place http://bunnymummy-jacquie.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/simple-sunburst-crochet-heart.html. I wanted to learn a new pattern and I found this quite interesting. The instructions were so easy and simple to follow. Please do try this pattern.

It was supposed to be the size of the red one which I had held in my palm, but it became a bit more bigger. But doesn't matter, I think so. I am not sure where is he going to use it. Hang it in the car, or as a mobile to his baby boy or as a door charm ... options are endless...

What do you think of this work? As usual, please post your comments. Would love to hear from you. Until then, its bye bye from Kala.

A table cloth project that developed a pattern creator in me.

Hi friends,

Today my post is about the table cloth that I am crocheting for one of my friends in Trivandrum, India.. She is my schoolmate. She has asked me to do a 5ft*3ft table cloth.

Pattern for the table cloth
I was about to choose a design for her when she gave one picture of table cloth which her mother has made many years ago. She wanted the same pattern. I was really shocked at the same time was excited too. Shocked because she gave me this assignment hardly when I had started my journey. As a beginner, I felt I should not be silly to take up this project. Hardly I now any stitches. So developing a pattern or thinking of how to create a pattern for it, was something beyond my ability,

I felt excited because of all, she picked me up from the lot.

But I didn't dare to say YES in the beginning. I said, if I could come up with the same design and if she likes it, I shall take it forward. She mentioned her requirements as I should choose white, light pink and light green fro this work with more whites, less pink with few flowers and green for the borders.

Pattern I developed
I then started working on the pattern based on the picture she gave me. I was finding out how to develop a pattern, and believe me, even in my sleep, I was just visualizing those picture and its patterns. I used to wake up late nights for this as if I was preparing for some exams or so. And finally I came up with the pattern.

I took a collage of the pictures and I showed it to her. She really loved it and asked me to go ahead with it. She gave me no deadline because she had only one condition , I should not stress myself while doing this. I should rally enjoy while doing it. I was so happy to hear from her.

First pile of motifs I made

I bought the yarn of the specified colours for this project and started working on the pattern to create motifs. I came up with my own design of placing the pinks and white motifs according to her requirements.

Sample motifs joined together
 with light green yarn.

Now I have started joining the motifs that I have in hand. I am sure I would need more motifs. But with kids around, I know it would be difficult to keep it secured. My very little one may put her hands in my work, I feared.. So thought of joining them and then making motifs later.

Stay tuned as I update my project now and then..

Have a lovely weekend. What do you say about this work? As usual, eager to hear from you. Until then, its Kala signing off.. Byeee..

My first hands-on experience in crochet

I should have started my blog step by step yesterday, but was worried if I had lost all my earlier photos. Today when I was browsing through the folders in my laptop, I happened to see all those old photos.. Yeah, (they were all safe in One drive.. thanks to technology..)

Small rose
Seeing those pictures , one by one of my old memories flashed in
my mind... Just posting those old pictures...

Five petal flower
My first mobile phone pouch.
(See how wonky it is... But now I have improved...)

Crochet OM & VEL wall hanging

OM & VEL wall hanging
Hello there everyone. Welcome back to my Yarnoments.... In this blog, I am mentioning about my crochet work on another wall hanging that my cousin has ordered... This is the symbols of Lord Muruga which my cousin's husband is a devotee of. She wanted to present it on his birthday. What a lovely choice was that!!!

When I received that order, I instantly made up my mind to crochet it in a circular pattern with peacock feathers added to it. There are couple of reasons :
1. I already made the rectangle shape.
2. The OM writing has the circular shape in Tamil language which would come well if I chose the round shape.

I already had the peacock blue colour yarn in my stash. So started crocheting flat circle of dcs.

I then googled for peacock feathers, Oh GOD, there were so many lovely patterns that it was difficult for me to choose. I got one from http://livingthecraftlife.blogspot.co.uk . This is a free pattern. I recommend those who have not tried , to give it a try..

The stitching of feathers to one another and then to the circular hanging was a tedious task, but I succeeded in that. The next challenge was to crochet the OM part. For this, I used Aunt Lydia's size 10 golden thread. I enjoyed working with size 10 thread as it was the first time I am using it. The shape came out clearly well which made me feel relieved. Similarly the VEL too (the pointer type).

I added some rhinestones and few blue and golden beads to add charm to the wall hanging. What do you think about it?? Isn't it lovely ???

Welcoming your comments and suggestions to evaluate myself.
Have a lovely day. See you soon with my next post until then its Kala signing off... Thank you.

Crochet Lord Ganapathi wall hanging-1

Hi there everyone,

Greetings from Kala. This is my first blog, so please bear with my mistakes if any.

To begin with, I am blogging about the crocheted wall hanging of Lord Ganapathi that I first attempted and how it transformed me to an entrepreneur...

I always had interest in craftwork since my school days to sewing, embroidery, home décors, wall hanging, cross stitch etc. So when I first learnt to crochet the basic stitches, I wanted to experiment a kind of cross stitch in crochet. This crocheted wall hanging of Lord Ganapathi is the first one I attempted.

I was overwhelmed with the output. I am not that good in drawing or painting, hardly knows few designs for the kolam. So, when I was about to attempt it, I was sceptical how it would come out.. But to my dismay, I really really really liked it.

My kids and hubby appreciated me on my effort, I felt like I am a super person.... For the next few days, I was just going on admiring my work, patting on my back (so funny, I felt)...

When I showed it to my cousin, she liked it and told me she wants to purchase it.. I was like "WHAT????"..  She repeated again, she wanted to purchase it and encouraged me to start a business. I was almost feeling dizzy because I didn't even think of setting up a business. This is my passion. But then I had to accept her words and you know what, she gave me a couple of orders too... Oh my GOD, whats it happening ???

I then interrupted her and asked for few days break as I need to think of it seriously, need to discuss with my family and suspended the talk there... To my surprise, my family, my friends everyone had the same thought as my cousin. Thus, this wall hanging marked the start of my journey as an entrepreneur.

However, I know that this wall hanging has its own negative sides like, the borders are not well aligned, it is not blocked. I then started researching more about crochet since that day. I set certain rules for myself to get devoted to crochet, which again set some routine in the life, I should say. I am so happy for that.Hope you also like my work.

Have a lovely day. See you soon with my next post until then its Kala signing off...
